- The Visitor Center phone number is 336-593-8480.
- You can visit the Website: http://www.ncparks.gov/visit/
parks/haro/main.php - Click here to view a map of the park.
- Please arrive at 2:00 pm.
- We will meet in front of the visitor’s center.
- Please check in with me (Shannon) as I have the participant list. If your schedule changes and you are not coming or you run into travel issues and will be late, please contact (call or text) me at 336-692-4519 as cell reception allows. We will be looking for you if you are on the sign up sheet.
- You may leave anytime after the cookout.

- The hike will begin around 3:00 pm.
- We will hike the Hanging Rock Trail (1.3 miles).
- The trail is wide and has a gravel surface for most of its length, but becomes more narrow and rocky near the top. This trail, although short, is rated “more difficult” since it climbs steeply and has some obstacles.
- Parents: to ensure everyone’s safety, please stay with your children at all times (unless you have arranged for another able adult to accompany them). This is a “must” since the terrain can be treacherous.
- Blaze color: Orange
- When you finish the hike, please check in with me (Shannon). We are tracking against our participant list for safety reasons.
- At present, we are planning to have dinner served at the picnic tables near the lake area, if that changes we will let everyone know.
- There is no cost to participants for this activity.
- Scouts wear their class B uniform (cub scout t-shirt) for this event.
- Please bring the dessert, side dish or other cookout items that you signed up to bring. If you don’t remember what you signed up to bring, click here.

- We are fortunate to have Mack Moore organizing the cookout. We will be having hotdogs grilled at the picnic shelter, side dishes and desserts brought by our pack members. Click here to see sign up sheet.
- If you didn’t sign up to bring a side dish or dessert and are able to bring something else, please email us back.
- We could use two volunteers to stay at the shelter during the hike to help set up the food with Mack.
- We also need drinks, please email us back if you are able to help with the drinks.
- From Winston Salem, NC take Highway 8 North to Danbury. Turn left at Stokes-Reynolds Hospital on Hanging Rock Road. It is 1.5 miles to the park from here.

Cub Scout Summer Resident Camp Reminder
Hi Everyone,
We wanted to highlight the previously mentioned Summer Resident Camp so you don’t miss this opportunity. The camp is from June 17th – June 20th at Raven Knob. It is designed to be attended by a scout and a parent but you can send your scout with another trusted adult or parent in your den as long as the other adult or den parent agrees to supervise your child for the duration of the trip. Each scout must be at least a rising Wolf to attend camp.
Our pack heavily subsidizes the cost of this camp to make it easier for pack families to attend. The subsidized cost is $65/scout and $35/parent. This includes a rank (den) specific program based on new rank (so a current Tiger would be a rising Wolf at Camp and so on), food, lodging, lake access (swimming and boating) and Raven Knob hiking trail access for three nights and two and a half days. The programs are specific based on your rank (den) and can include nature, woodworking, leatherworking, swimming, cooking, boating and more.
My son and I have been going to Resident Camp since he was a rising wolf. Over the past three years, he has learned to identify edible vegetation, poisonous plants and venomous snakes. He has also learned about leatherworking, woodworking, how to survive when trapped in water for a long period of time, first aid including practicing making 9-1-1 calls with an EMT as well as other hands on aid and so much more. I think my son also looks forward to meeting the boy scouts who teach these classes and work with these programs. They are always confident and knowledgeable. I don’t think you can beat learning these kinds of life skills especially for this low price.
A special note for rising Webelos I and II, Resident Camp is a great place to earn key activity badges like Aquanaut, to gain some of the requirements for the Arrow of Light Award and is required to earn the Cubmaster’s Award.
Please visit our pack website for more information and registration forms. We will also have paper registration forms at the sign up table next week.

Cub Scout Leaders’ Meeting and Great Day of Service This Week
Cub Scout Den Meetings, Pack Hike, Summer Resident Camp and Summer Day Camp This Week!
Welcome Back Scout Friends,
We are resuming our Den Meetings this coming Tuesday night, April 7th, at 7:00 pm in the scout area at Mt Tabor UMC. We will miss our Wolf Den families who will be meeting at Reynolda Gardens during that time. Wolf parents, please remember, you are meeting 15 minutes earlier than our regular Den Meeting time at 6:45 pm.
Sign ups this week continue for the Pack Hike on April 25th at Hanging Rock. We are also beginning our registration for Summer Resident Camp this week. Many of you may recall that Resident Camp is scheduled for June 17th-20th at Raven Knob. The deadline for Resident Camp registration is April 21st. We highly encourage all Scouts to participate in Resident Camp because it provides an excellent way to get ahead on earning achievements for each rank. Since the Scouts will advance in rank in late May, Resident Camp will be one of their first opportunities to start engaging in activities for the new rank. For example, Scouts who are currently Tigers will be able to start on Wolf activities and so on. Also, for Webelos, Resident Camp is a great place to earn key activity badges like Aquanaut and to gain some of the requirements for the Arrow of Light award.
We will also have registration forms for District Day Camp at the sign up table on Tuesday. The dates for day camp are July 13th-17th. The deadline to sign up for this camp is June 5th. This week long day camp is all about scout fun. The camp includes BBs, Archery, Nature, Sports and Arts & Crafts. The Webelo scouts have a special opportunity to “camp out” on Thursday Night before the last day of camp on Friday.
We look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday Night.
