A Small Change to the Transportation Museum Plan for Saturday

Dear Transportation Museum Travelers,
I hope you are all well tonight. I wanted to let you know of a small change in plans for Saturday’s trip. Everything is the same except we will not be doing the potluck dinner part of the trip. I am hoping that I caught everyone before you bought or cooked anything for Saturday.
So we will ride the train together and then you are free to explore the museum and stay as long as your family wants to enjoy the museum.
Please contact me with questions.

Cub Scout Pack Meeting Next Tuesday, 9/22/15

Dear All,
Thank you for your patience during our very first paperwork party this past Tuesday. No one at my house has confessed to getting our (blank) paperwork wet at this point and I appreciate your waiting while we had to make emergency copies for everyone to fill out. I can assure you that the current paperwork is now encased in plastic. I know this held up some other parts of the party and I thank you for waiting. I am very grateful for all the support and help that was offered. There were many heroes of the night! I will try to name everyone and my apologies if I miss someone.
Thank you to the Webelo II Den, Carmen Bridges, Amanda Treadway, Justin Treadway, Al Hadley, Joanne Mitchener, Sheri Nebinger, Andy Nebinger, Alex Lee, Courtney Shields, Sally Gupton, Stacy Stevens, Rebeccah Byer, Mack Moore, Michael Nebinger & Brad Wood.
There was also a pair of black framed reading glasses left in the Fellowship Hall after the party, please let me know if they are yours.
This Saturday, 9/19, is the trip to the Transportation Museum. The communication for this trip has gone out. If you signed up but did not receive an email about it, please contact me.
I usually post a copy of all of these pack announcement and reminder messages on the main page of the website, www.pack934.org, as well.
We meet again next Tuesday, 9/22/15, at 7:00 pm at Mt Tabor UMC. This will be a pack meeting, where all the dens meet together. It will be held in the Family Life Center which is located on the other side of the Fellowship Hall. (Just for reference, we had our paperwork party in the Fellowship Hall this past Tuesday.) Due to our church’s construction project, the Family Life Center is temporarily set up as the church sanctuary. We may need your help keeping the children off of the sound equipment in the room. Please be watchful.
This will be a Class B, Cub Scout t-shirt, event. If you don’t have a class B t-shirt yet, any t-shirt is fine. For the boys who have earned awards, those will be given out, we will discuss our upcoming popcorn fundraiser and we will be playing a game outside, weather permitting.
Please enter through the church office as you did this past Tuesday and come in through the fellowship hall.
You can turn in any stray paperwork and sign ups will continue as well. Current sign ups are Big Sweep, Parent/Son Camporee, Wake Forest Football Game & Sleepover, God & Family Classes and Webelo I and Webelo II Camping Trip.

Transportation Museum Trip Details – 9/19/15

Hello Cub Scout Friends,
We are all looking forward to seeing each of you at the Transportation Museum this Saturday.  The address is 411 S. Salisbury Ave. Spencer, NC 28159. It is about a 46 minute drive from Mt Tabor UMC.
I checked the weather and it looks really good for Saturday.
This is a class B uniform, cub Scout t-shirt, event. If you don’t have a cub scout t-shirt yet, any t-shirt will work.
We are meeting there at 1:45 pm. We have a pack train ride set up. The train ride is 25 minutes long. Your tickets also cover the turn table ride as well.
After the train ride, you are welcome to go where your scouts and children want to explore on the grounds. We will meet at the picnic shelter (there is only one) around 4:30 pm to have a potluck dinner. I am told there is a big field around the shelter and the kids can play after eating.
As far as the food, please email me back with what food you are planning to bring if you didn’t list it on the sign up sheet so I can make sure we are covered. We could use main dishes, desserts & sides. You can drop off your food at the picnic shelter when you arrive at the Transportation Museum. We have 45 people signed up to attend the trip on Saturday!
I will post a copy of this message on the pack website as well.

Cub Scout Den Meetings & Parent Social on 9/15/15

Dear All,

I hope you are all well. On Tuesday, 9/15/15 we have our den meetings and our parent social & paperwork party from 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm. The den meetings will be in our new meeting rooms at Mt Tabor UMC. You can enter through the old scout entrance or through the church office.  Please remember that these will be the first meetings for many of our new scouts and even though we have pack members who are planning to be in the parking lot to direct them, they may still need help finding their way.
Please remember that while door-to-door popcorn sales have not started, the on-line popcorn sales season is in full swing. Please visit our popcorn page on the pack website for information on setting up an on-line account and the football tickets prize.

The parent social & paperwork party will be in the church fellowship hall. Please bring in your completed paperwork or come to the party and fill out it. We will have access to the church copier if you want us to make copies of your insurance cards for your medical forms. This year, we have a couple of new forms that we need from each scout family. They are our pack volunteer form and our pack image permission form. Each current scout family needs to fill out medical forms, outdoor permission form, volunteer form and an image permission form.
While we will have paper forms at the party, our forms are also available on-line at: Link to Cub Scout Application, link to Medical Forms, link to Outdoor Permission Form, link to Pack Volunteer Form and link to Image Permission Form. Please remember that we need two medical forms – one for the scout and one for the adult going with the scout. Every time we fill out medical forms, we get the question who is the Unit Leader, please write in Brad Wood.
We will also have the pack t-shirts and the 934 uniform patches on sale at the parent social. We will be holding the sign ups at the parent social as well.
If anyone would like to bring light snacks to share at the parent social, feel free to do so. I will bring food and drinks. In fact, I will be baking all weekend so please come and eat! It is my birthday this month so please come by and have a snack with me.  I also have the church snow cone and popcorn machines for the party. *Please note: All food especially the snow cones may only be eaten in the fellowship hall or in the parking lot as we can not have the food in other areas the church.*
If anyone would like to volunteer to help at the parent social, we need help showing the new parents around, with the t-shirt sale, making copies, handing out popcorn and snow cones and collecting forms. Even if you can only spare a few minutes, it would be deeply appreciated.
Tuesday, 9/15/15 is the deadline to sign up for the Transportation Museum visit. It begins at 1:45 pm and includes dinner under the picnic shelter.
Please remember you can pay with check, cash or credit card at the meetings.

Welcome to a New Cub Scout Year!

Hello Cub Scout Families,
We are all excited to start a new Cub Scout year!
Calendar Dates: We have a lot coming up so here are the dates for your calendars.
Our first Den Meetings will be on Tuesday, August 25th 7:00 pm. We will continue meeting at Mt Tabor UMC but in light of the construction project, we will be meeting in a new part of the church. Please enter the church through the same scout entrance that you used last year and you will be directed from there.
In the new meeting location, will we have a separate sign up room for our sign up table as well as an additional parent room. We are hoping this will ease our long lines of the past. Next week on the sign up table, we will have a trip to the Transportation Museum on 9/19/15, Wake Forest Football Game  & sleepover on 10/30/15, Community Clean Sweep 10/3/15 and Parent Son Camporee 10/9/15.
Our Open House Game Night is Tuesday, September 1st at 7:00 pm. Due to the construction, we had to find an alternate location to have the Open House.  We are very grateful to Hope Presbyterian Church for coming to our rescue! They are located around the corner from Mt Tabor UMC at 2050 Peace Haven Road. We will have our open house on their campus.

New Curriculum Changes: As you may remember, we mentioned last spring that the National BSA has a new cub scout curriculum going into this place for this fall. There are some changes for our boys. The three changes we will begin showing the boys on Tuesday are:
  • The Boy Scout handsign replaces the Cub Scout handsign
  • The Boy Scout Oath replaces the Cub Scout Promise.
  • The Boy Scout Law replace the Cub Scout Law.
This information is all in your son’s handbook for their current rank. It may help him to make the transition if you go over these changes before the meeting on Tuesday.

Medical & Outdoor Forms:  Its a new scout year and we all know what means. Its time to complete new scout paperwork.  Medical forms are only good for one calendar year so most of our scouts and parents need a new medical form. For Cub Scouts, we only need parts A & B filled out of the BSA medical form.  If you are turning in a printed PDF medical form each year, please adjust your child’s age and check and update the other information on the form so it contains current phone numbers, addresses and insurance information. Here is the link for the Medical Form. The number one question I am asked everyone year when parents are completing the medical forms is  – who do I put down as Unit Leader on the medical form? It is the Cubmaster, Brad Wood.
Last spring, we learned that we need to keep an outdoor parental permission form on file for each scout. If you son went to Resident Camp this summer then I have an outdoor form for your scout. If he didn’t go to that summer camp, then you can assume I need this form filled out. Here is the link for the Outdoor Parental Permission form.

During the Den Meetings on 9/15/15, we are planning a Parents’ Social and Paperwork Party in the Fellowship Hall at Mt Tabor UMC. Please come by and visit with other families as well as turn in your paperwork. I will have access to the church copier to copy insurance cards and other important documentation to make this process more convenient. We will have a separate table for new scouts as they will have additional paperwork to fill out. If you want to turn in your paperwork earlier than 9/15, we are happy to take it but please come by the parents’ social and meet the new parents.
We look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday, August 25th at 7:00 pm.

Cub Scout Day Camp at Speas & the Council This Coming Week

Hi Everyone,
I know that some of our scouts are attending the district day camp scheduled to begin tomorrow at Speas Elementary.  Liza Wearn sent me a link from the old hickory website that has some additional information.
If you didn’t get an email from the Camp Director or have questions, please email, text or call me and I will help you get some additional information.
The council does not share who has signed up for day camp with the pack leaders, so if your child is signed up to attend, please let me know so I can request the records of what each of our scouts completes at Day Camp for awards.
Take care-
Shannon

Pack Day Camp Celebrity – Paul Couture

Hello Scout Families,
As many of you are aware, I was fortunate to be able to volunteer at the District Cub Scout Day Camp last week. While I was working with council representatives and many boy scouts, venture crew and sea scouts, we were visited by The Winston Salem Journal.
Our own Wolf, Paul Couture, was in the photographs in the article. Here is the link to see Paul and many other boys from our community.

Have a great week.
