Cub Scout God & Family Classes & Leaders’ Meetings Next Tuesday, 11/10/15 and Popcorn Pick Up, Thursday, 11/12/15

Hello Everyone,
I hope you are all well. I wanted to remind you that this coming Tuesday, 11/10/15, we do not have cub scout den meetings; however, for those signed up, we will have our next God & Family class at 6:00 pm at Mt Tabor UMC. The Pineapple group will meet in the 3rd floor library and the Pepperoni group will meet in room 307. These are same places that we have been meeting in since we began the series. Please have your scout bring his book & bible and wear his class A uniform for class on Tuesday.
This coming week, we will have our leaders’ meeting in the youth commons at Mt Tabor UMC at 7:00 pm.
💥Popcorn pick up is this Thursday, 11/12/15, – 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Northwest Baptist Church located at 407 Petree Road.  If we finish getting all orders sorted and set up early, we will send out a message to let everyone know.
⏳If you need to pick up your popcorn early, please let me know as soon as possible. Additionally, we were very fortunate to have Northwest Baptist Church agree to let us use their facility during our church’s construction project so please be aware that we can not store any popcorn at this church, you must make arrangements to get your popcorn picked up.
Current pack sign ups are for the Webelo I and Webelo II Camping Trip and the Airbound Scout Party.   Both of these events are free for our scouts to participate.  If you want to sign up for these events and you have not been able to during our meetings, please email, call or text me and I will sign your scout up.

Please Help With the Cub Scout Popcorn Delivery on Thursday, 11/12/15

Dear All,
I hope you are well. The popcorn orders are in and next Thursday, November 12th, a giant, 18 wheel tractor trailer full of popcorn will be arriving at Northwest Baptist Church with our name on it – Ta-dah! Then it is up to us to unload and sort the popcorn.
So far our volunteers consist of me, Amanda, and Mack!  Even with Mack’s wig, the three of us can’t get a tractor trailer full of popcorn ready for pick up by 5:00 pm …. We need help, so much help…..
We believe that the truck will arrive next Thursday morning around 9ish to be unloaded and sorted. I am still waiting to hear an exact time from Trails End but last year it came around 8:30ish.
If you can help, please let me know and what times you are available for next Thursday, 11/12/15.

Cub Scout Den Meetings and God & Family Classes Next Tuesday, 11/3/15

I hope you are well. We are still chasing down stray popcorn forms, If you have not turned in your popcorn form, please contact me ASAP even if you didn’t sell any popcorn. We have to place the pack popcorn order.
This coming Tuesday, 11/3/15, our God & Family Group meets at 6:00 pm at Mt  UMC. The Pineapple group begins in the 3rd floor library and the Pepperoni group begins in room 307.
Our den meetings begin at 7:00 pm this Tuesday as well at Mt Tabor UMC.

WFU Scout Night and Sleepover Update

Hello All,

I hope you are well. I have only two more sets of football game tickets to deliver and I am hoping to do that this afternoon. Please check your tickets for tomorrow night and let me know if anything is amiss.

I received an email from our WFU contact with details for tomorrow night, I know this is similar to the information on our pack WFU game & sleepover webpage but I am going to post it below for your convenience.

I have only heard back from a handful of you regarding the sleeping over part of the evening. If you are planning to sleepover, please email me back as soon as you can. WFU is pushing for a sleepover headcount. I did check the weather and I don’t see any mention of rain for tomorrow night, if that helps your decision.

Friday, October 30

4:00pm-6:00pm: Equipment Drop-Off at the Wake Forest Baseball Park.

Attendees will park in the LJVM Public Parking Lots (yellow) for the football game. Parking is $10 and a parking map has been attached for your convenience.  After parking, scouts may carry their equipment to the WF Baseball Park.  (An announcement will be made during the program at the Baseball Park following the football game informing adults when vehicles may be moved to the baseball parking lot.)

 

7:00pm: Wake Forest vs. Louisville Football Game Kickoff

The gates at BB&T Field will open at 5:30 PM for admission.  You can visit our redemption stand behind Deacon Hill anytime between 5:30 PM and the end of the 2nd half to claim your Wake Forest Scout Night patch.  During halftime, there will also be numerous Halloween themed activities located on the concourse near the patch pick-up location.

 

Post-Game: Pictures of Scouts on the Football Field & Return to Wake Forest Baseball Park for Movie

Bathrooms will be located on the concourses of the baseball field for your convenience on Friday night.

REMINDERS

  •  No campfires, camp stoves or any other cooking device is allowed at the Wake Forest Baseball park.
  • No tent stakes on the field.

Cub Scout God & Family Class # 4 – Next Week, 11/3/15 6:00 pm

I hope you are all well. Amid all the popcorn mania, we had another fun God & Family class last night. Thank you to Dr. Mark Key for engaging the boys.
We meet next week, 11/3/15, at 6:00 pm at Mt Tabor UMC. Same third floor meeting rooms as before – Pineapples start in the library and Pepperonis start in room 307.  Our guest speaker from the Mt Tabor UMC Clergy will be Kara Harvey. (Thank you, Kara!)
We are halfway through the God & Family series. I have a great news – the God & Family Cub Scout Professional, Stacy Stevens, will be back next week so no more dealing with the replacement player, Shannon.
Although, I am a bit sad because this topic coming up is my favorite. It is all about unconditional love or the cheese on our theoretical pizza. It is entitled “In God’s family we are loved, no matter what! Because we are loved, we follow the rules.”
Of course, you can’t talk about examples of unconditional love in the bible with children without bringing up the parable of the Prodigal Son. So we (or they) will focus on Luke 15:11-32.  They will also talk about obedience in Exodus 20:12 as well as Mary & Joseph losing Jesus in Luke 2:41-52.  There is also a discussion of the 10 commandments using Exodus 20:1-17and in Deuteronomy 5:6-21.
Homework this week, you can choose one from:
(1) Saying a prayer with your family and thanking God for all the different gifts & talents God has given your family members.
(2) Taking a walk with your family and observing (with eyes, ears and nose) all the gifts God has given us in nature. Read Psalm 8 and have a family prayer of thankful praise for all the God-given gifts in nature.
I assume that Stacy won’t need me for the rest of the series, so let me tell you how much fun I had with your boys. They are bright, funny and engaging. Thank you so much for sharing them with me!
In my God & Family replacement player career, I was blessed with lots of help: Carmen Bridges, Brad Wood, Ty Brown, Emma Brown, Liza Wearn, Mark Wearn, Courtney Shields and the rotating Mt Tabor UMC clergy (who know this program like the back of their collective hand). I am grateful for every one of these wonderful people, for this support and so many other reasons. If I missed someone who helped, please know that I am thankful for your help and just a little bit scattered ;>.

Mandatory Cub Scout Popcorn Form & Optional Money Turn In Reminder – 6:00 pm – 7:15 pm – Come Early

Please remember tomorrow, Tuesday 10/27/15, is our Mandatory Popcorn Form Turn In Night in the Fellowship Hall at Mt Tabor UMC. You can also bring any money that you have already collected.
 We are opening the Fellowhship Hall early at 6:00 pm. Please come as early as you can. We are only accepting forms & money until 7:15 pm so we have time to count it all and determine the popcorn winners.
We are trying to get all the parents through the process so they can see their sons getting their awards in the Pack Meeting at 7:00 pm. This is a class A uniform event.
If you can’t get to the popcorn form turn in, please contact me.

Cub Scout Pack Meeting, Popcorn Form & Money Turn in and God & Family Classes – Next Tuesday, 10/27/15

I hope you are all having wonderful weekend. We have several things going on this coming week, please bear with me as I try to explain it all and feel free to email me with questions. This Tuesday please have your scout wear his class A uniform.
Here is a summary of the evening:
Tuesday 10/27/15
6:00 pm – 7:15 pm – Popcorn Form & Money Turn-in – Fellowship Hall
6:00 pm – 7:00 pm – God & Family Classes – 3rd Floor Library (Pineapples) & Room 307 (Pepperonis)
7:00 pm – 8:00 pm – Pack Meeting – Family Life Center
Details:
6:00 pm – 7:15 pm – Popcorn: We will have popcorn forms & money turn in the fellowship hall (where the Wolf den meets on den nights). This is a mandatory form turn in night. Please remember to keep a copy of your form.
 
Popcorn raffle and the top three seller prizes will be awarded at the end of the Pack Meeting that begins at 7:00 pm. This is also the first night that you can turn in your popcorn money early. If you are bringing checks to turn in, please write your scout’s first initial and last name as well as your scout’s den number on each check.
If you don’t know your den number, they are listed below:
  • 1st grade – Tiger – Den 3
  • 2nd grade – Wolf – Den 1
  • 3rd grade – Bear – Den 5
  • 4th grade -Webelo I – Den 2
  • 5th grade – Webelo II – Den 7
 If you can not make the pack meeting, please email me so we can make arrangements to get your form early.
 
6:00 pm – 7:00 pm – God & Family Classes: The scouts who are signed up for God & Family classes, will have class at 6:00 pm on Tuesday.  As you know, we split our group into two groups; Pineapples & Pepperonis. The Pineapples begin in the 3rd floor library and the Pepperonis begin in room 307.  Please have your scout bring your God & Family workbook & if you have one, a bible.
7:00 pm – 8:00 pm – Pack Meeting: Our pack meeting is this Tuesday as well, in the Family Life Center at 7:00 pm. We have several scouts who have earned their Bobcat Badge from various dens. Those will be awarded in this meeting. Please remember that the scouts sit with their dens.
Current sign ups are for the Webelo I and Webelo II Camping Trip and the Airbound Scout Party.   Both of these events are free for our scouts to participate. I will try to have sign ups at the pack meeting but they will not begin until after the popcorn forms are collected and the money is counted. I want to support our hardworking popcorn committee as much as I can. I know that many of you may not be aware that I am standing in for our God & Family coordinator at 6:00 pm so I will not be in the fellowship hall until I arrive with the G&F boys at 7:00ish pm. Please don’t try to track me down early to get your football tickets for next Friday but hold your event money, questions and issues until I am finished helping the popcorn committee.

Scout Night WFU Football Game & Sleepover

It’s almost time for Scout Night at the WFU Football Game!   We are going on Friday, October 30th, 2015. Kickoff is at 7:00 pm. All event details are listed on our pack WFU Football/Sleepover webpage regarding timing, parking, check in and etc.
I am planning to give out the tickets at the pack meeting on Tuesday, 10/27/15. If you are not going to be able to attend the meeting on Tuesday, please email me so I can get your tickets to you. For our season ticket holders who have signed up, I spoke with the ticket office and they believe that we will have enough room in our section for you and your scout to sit with the pack. Our section is number 13.
I have to provide a headcount on who is planning to spend the night on the baseball field.  Please email me and let me know if you and your scout are spending the night with the pack after the game.

Cub Scout Popcorn Update – Form Turn in 10/27 & Early Money Turn in

Hi All,
We hope you are having an awesome popcorn season. At the round up this week, Mack reminded our pack families that the popcorn form turn in is this Tuesday, 10/27/15, at our pack meeting.
He also announced something new. This year our families have the option of turning in their popcorn money early instead of waiting until 11/24/15. You can turn in as much of your money as you have on Tuesday,10/27/15. Please limit your money turn in to two times during the season. To speed up the money in take process, you can write a check to the pack for your cash.
If you can not get to the pack meeting this week, please contact me to turn in your form and any money early.

Cub Scout God & Family Class #3 – Tuesday, 10/27/15 @ 6:00 pm Mt Tabor UMC 3rd Floor Library

Hi Everyone,

We had a great time at the God & Family this week. Our God & Family “Pizza” now has a crust (foundation) and sauce (unique ingredients that make our families including our families both by birth and by choice). The boys in our Pineapple group ( Reynolds Bailey, Noah Bridges, Jacob Brown, Hudson Maddux, Zachoriah Moore and Ben Taylor) , did not get to trace their body and draw out their hereditary features – example: I have my dad’s eye color. They can do that on page 10 in their God & Family workbook on a smaller picture or if they want to come early at 5:30 on 10/27/15, I will do a big one with them. Please email me if your child wants to come early by Saturday, 10/24/15.

This coming Tuesday, 10/27/15, we will meet at 6:00 pm in the 3rd floor library at Mt Tabor UMC. I am happy to take the boys downstairs after God & Family class to the Family Life Center for our Pack Meeting.

We are working on our toppings (our talents & gifts) this coming week with Dr. Mark Key from our Mt Tabor UMC clergy family.

Our scripture will be:

  • Moses and Aaron – Exodus 4:10-17, 27-31;17:8-13
  • Timothy and his Family – 2 Timothy 1:1-7; 3:14-17
  • 1 Thessaalonians 3:1-2, 6

I think the pizza (while fun) took too much time away from the class time this past week so I will bring some snacks for the boys this week instead.

Missing classes : We know that the boys will get sick from time to time, but we need to limit the boys’ missed classes to one class per series to receive their award. If you have timing issues, please contact me so I can work with you.
