Yorktown Details

Hello Friends!
Now that the popcorn sale is finished and the orders almost completed in the system, (Thank you so much Stacy Stevens, for your hard work and dedication to making this a great popcorn season!!) it’s time to turn our attention to our next big event!  Yorktown!!🛳
I know you all have been awaiting the final details, so here we go.  First we will all need to meet in the parking lot at 40 Patriots Point Rd, Mt. Pleasant  SC  29464 at 7:00 pm Fri., Nov. 4th.  Please allow 5 hours to travel.  We understand this cuts everyone’s day short, but it is necessary.  You will need to eat dinner on the way. This trip is a little different than most of our events.  We MUST enter as a group.  They will not allow us on the ship until everyone is present.  I don’t think anyone wants  to be the cause of everyone standing around waiting for a long time.  We will have orientation and a fire drill Friday night.  If you absolutely can not get there Friday night, please let me know as quickly as possible, so that we can get you scheduled for your orientation and fire drill Saturday.  🚨
Also if there are any changes in the person or persons attending, for instance, mom is going instead of dad who signed up, please let me know.  Yorktown must have our breakdown of women, men, boys, girls.
🛄The pier to the ship is 600 ft long.  With this in mind, every person must carry or roll your luggage down the pier.  I also understand space is limited for storage of your luggage, so please pack fairly light.  Please see the list of suggested items attached below.
⏰Saturday morning, we will be taking a boat across the Charleston Harbor to Ft. Sumter.  We will be departing at 8:15am for this tour.  You don’t want to miss this experience!
✈We will also be participating in the Aviation Course Saturday afternoon, where we will learn about aviation history, types of aircraft, and the four basic forces acting on an airplane.  We will fly a simulated F35-B on one of six flight simulators, build and test fly a glider and tour a WWII plane!
The completed schedule will not be given to us until the Thursday before arrival, so I will send it out once it is finalized.
🍔The Yorktown kitchen staff will provide for Saturday; Breakfast, a sack lunch, and dinner.  They will also provide breakfast Sunday morning.  Breakfast and dinner are served “Navy” fashion in the Chief Petty Officers’ Mess on the ship.  The menu can be found at: http://www.patriotspoint.org/assets/pdf/camper_menu.pdf
A list of ingredients can be found at:
Please do not bring carry-on food or drinks during your stay.  Exception is given to those with food allergies.  (The kitchen staff does have a list of the food allergies and is working to ensure the individuals with allergies are fed appropriately.)  If you need a snack there is a snack bar located landside and one in the hangar bay on the ship.  There are also vending machines located on and off the ship.  🍭
Please review the attached rules as safety is a first priority for Yorktown and your leaders.
If you have any further questions.  Or think of something I missed, please feel free to reach out to me.  I know this is a lot of information.
I’m so excited to spend the weekend experiencing new things and making memories for our boys,
Hope

a Few More Popcorn Details

Hello Friends,
One of our  mom’s, Angela Muse, has graciously made door hangers for door to door selling, in case their neighbors are not home while going door to door.  She has offered it for any Scout who would like their own.  I am attaching the templates here so that you can modify it for your scout. If you have any problems modifying you may reach out to Angela via text or call  (717)327-7167 or email her at mammc5@gmail.comThank you so much Angela, for sharing this with the pack!!!!

I have had a couple questions about popcorn, so I wanted to send an email and make sure no detail is missed.  It is a lot of information in a short amount of time.
The children will show their form every week.  The 1st money collection will be 10/4 and the money and form are to be completed and turned in 10/18. Checks should be made payable to Pack 934.  The popcorn will be delivered November 10th in the Mt. Tabor UMC lower parking lot.  We will sort it and let everyone know when it is ready for pick-up.   If you happen to be available to help that day, please let me or Stacy Stevens know.  We would be grateful for any help with the unpacking and sorting.
Have a great week and happy selling!!
Hope

Pack 934 Updates 9/19/2016

Hello Everyone,
🏕We are so thankful that the Webelos made it back from camp safely.  It sounds as if they had a wonderful time!  Played lots of games, enjoyed their Dutch oven cooking, saw lots of animals (exhibits, not in the camp parents).  They also got to play miniature golf and hear a book read around the campfire by none other than our very own Brad Wood!  The Webelos also were involved in some very moving patriotic ceremonies, such as retiring an American flag, Pledge of Allegiance, and singing God Bless America and the National Anthem.  Thank you to all the leader’s who instill and model these great values to our sons! [?]
I would like to thank everyone who came out to The Beanstalk Journey zip line course last weekend.  We had a great turn out and the course was a LOT of fun!!  I want to say a special thank you to those of you who had to wait so long to zip line.  We now know how to approach this kind of trip and what questions to ask in the future.  My apologies that it took so long but thank you all for being so very gracious about it.  I do hope that once you got up in the tree houses, it took the sting of waiting away some. You all deserve a gift. 🎁
Tuesday night, September 20th will be our regular den meeting night 7pm at Mt Tabor UMC.  Please remember to walk along the driveway at the right side of the building to the basement and enter through the Scout Entrance, which is under the metal staircase.  If you are new to scouting and have already purchased your child’s uniform shirt, please have them wear it.  If you do not have a uniform shirt yet, please come anyway.  It is not required they have it before attending.  If you need assistance securing a uniform shirt, please see me, one of your den leaders, or anyone you know helps lead.  We are happy to assist.
🌽The den meetings will wrap up early (7:40), and we will all head to the Family Life Center Upstairs for our POPCORN KICK-OFF!!!!!  We are very excited about this year’s popcorn as it is how we discount so many of our activities, so lets all do our part and meet our goals!! 🎆🎆

A Few More Webelos Camping Details

Dear Friends,
I just wanted to send a reminder (or make any new scouting parents aware), the pocket knives are optional and the scout must have his whittling certificate in order to carry his knife.  If you would like a refresher on t he policy or are a new parent please see this Whittling Chip link.
🌭We also have the menu for Saturday:
Saturday Morning:  Ziploc omelets and Orange Cinnamon Rolls
Saturday Lunch:  Hotdogs and Chips
Saturday Dinner:  English Muffin Pizzas and Dump Cake
We have not purchased drinks, as scouts should have water.
I know the boys will have a great time!

Added Details about Webelos Camping Site

Webelos Scouts and Parents:

To supplement Hope’s outstanding e-mail, I just returned a few moments ago from conducting a recon of Dan Nicholas Park.   We are in for some great fun.  It takes about 45-50  minutes to get there from Winston-Salem.

The gates to the Park close at 8 pm.   However, the code to the gate is 9999 (yes, four 9s), so if you are not carpooling and otherwise arrive after 8 pm (or need to leave the park for some reason after 8 pm) you can still get in or out.

After you turn left to enter the park, take your first right to reach our campsite (about a ¼ mile after you make the right turn).  You will see a sign on the right that says “Boy Scouts.”  The parking lot is immediately to the left (see my first attached photo).

The parking lot where we will park is about 100 yards from where our campsite is located.   There is a nice playground, a miniature golf course, and numerous other attractions located close by.   We have bathrooms with running water located about 150 yards from our campsite.  However, be advised that there are no showers.

Our campsite has a small building with electricity, together with a covered area and lots of picnic tables.  That will provide a nice area for us to serve and eat our meals.   I picked up the key to this building from the Concessions Building.  We may have a little sweeping and arranging to do Friday night after we get there to get it ship shape.

FYI — There is a nice fishing pond that is available for use, PROVIDED that you have a valid NC Fishing License and pay a $2 fee to the park.

Very respectfully,

Brad

Webelos Camping Trip Details

Dear Friends,
The Webelos will be meeting in the lower parking lot at Mt. Tabor UMC at 5:30 to depart for Dan Nicholas State Park this Friday. Stefano Marsella (whom many associate with the Cub Scouts) will also be meeting the Boy Scout Troop there for a different trip (just for your information, so none of the Webelos think they should be with Stefano).  The Webelos will be car pooling.  Please bring a bag dinner Friday as they will need to get to camp and set up before dark.
Every parent going, MUST have the Youth Protection Course.  If you are attending and have not taken it, please click on the link above, complete it, and get a copy to me.  We did check with the council on two-deep leadership and transportation, and they have approved the car pooling plan.  The gates are open from 8-8 each day if you are a parent who is going but does not intend to stay.
We are so thankful to the Webelos I den for grocery shopping for the whole group!  Due to Shane Harterink’s diligent planning we know the boys will not be hungry.  They have purchased food for every meal Saturday.  (They will be stopping to eat a fast food breakfast Sunday morning.)
The boys should bring:
Tents
Sleeping bags
Pillows
Clothes
Jacket or pullover
Socks
Shoes – extra pair
Water bottle
Flashlight/head lamp
toothbrush/paste
Small towel
Pocket Knife
Enough money for fast food breakfast and optional snacks sold at concessions
⛺If you do not have one of the above needed items, please let me know.  We do have extras available.  Please also note that the scouts will be sleeping at least two to a tent, so not every child needs to bring their own.  We do however, want to ensure we have plenty, so if you do not have a tent, please let me know so I can keep track of extras needed.
They will be enjoying lots of activities to earn their rank, such as outdoor cooking, setting up tents, safely building fires, leaving no trace, fire starting (without matches), and hiking. There is also a petting zoo and animal sanctuary at  the park.  Please DO NOT bring Nerf guns this year as they will have plenty of other activities.  (I know some may be bummed about this, but don’t worry, we may include those in a different event this year.)
As a side note, if anyone of you has ever been to this park, you know there is a water sprinkler section for children.  Please let your sons know they will not be playing in the water as they will be doing plenty of other fun activities!!
And finally, for their return.  As you know, there will be lots of cars in the Mt Tabor UMC parking lot with all the different Sunday morning services.  So,  please meet at Leinbach Park at 10am (across the street from Mt Tabor UMC) to pick up your children.  We are hopeful that 10am will not interfere with most parents Sunday morning services.  
This will be a great trip,
Hope

Beanstalk Journey Details

Hello Everyone!
I hope you all are having a great week.  I wanted to send out a few reminders and details regarding the trip this Sunday, September 11th at 2pm.  The address to The Beanstalk Journey is 701 Sanford Dr., Morganton  NC 28655.  GPS shows it takes 1.5 hours to get there from Winston Salem.  The adventure should last about 1.5 hours as well.  There is a huge play area across the street that promises to be loads of fun, with lots of picnic tables, if anyone wants to pack your lunch or dinner and make a whole day of it.  There are NO OPEN TOE SHOES OR CROCS ALLOWED.  They will break us into groups and we will watch a video before the guides get us started.
I am looking forward to seeing you all at this adventure!!

I hope you are all having a great weekend. Thank you for making our first den meeting of the year a success.  Thank you to all our fearless leaders who work so hard to make sure every den meeting is a wonderful experience for our boys!
🎯Next Tuesday, September 6th, will be our Pack Open House night at Burkhead UMC,  5250 Silas Creek Pkwy.  Please use the second entrance.  (The first is only a loop)  There will be drawings for door prizes!  The boys will get one entry simply for coming, another if they bring a friend, and another if they are in uniform.  There will also be a drawing just for friends who attend.  It promises to be a fun filled night!
📣Open House will be the last night to sign up for The Beanstalk Journey.  I want to encourage parents who do not want to zip line to come and bring your little ones to hang out.  I understand The Beanstalk Journey has helped the county to build an enormous play area right across the street that is open to the public (and free).  In order to zip line you must complete a waiver for The Beanstalk Journey and a Pack 934 Activity Control Form and Waiver.  You may print them here and bring them to the Open House or see the sign-up table there.  The zip line course is $19.00 per person.
🏕The Webelos Camping trip is coming quickly.  It will be at Dan Nicholas State Park September 16th-18th.  This is a free event for the Webelo Dens only.  We encourage parents to let the boys camp with their leaders and give the parents a weekend off.  (Of course, if you feel your Webelo is not ready, please talk to your den leader. We do not want any Webelos to miss out on this awesome opportunity to learn and grow!)  The Webelo I den will be grocery shopping for the camping trip during the September 13th Leader’s Meeting.  Please meet in front of the Lowe’s Foods on Robinhood Road (behind River Birch Lodge) at 7:00 pm.
⛺Parent/Son Camporee will be October 14th – 16th at Camp Raven Knob.  .  The cost is $25.00 per adult and $15.00 per scout.  Please sign-up quickly to ensure your spot is reserved!  This is for scouts and parental figures only.  (it’s not a family event.)  As always Parent/Son will be an awesome, fun-filled, memory making weekend!
🛳We have also opened USS Yorktown sign-ups for those who missed out and new Scouts.  The cost is $101.00 per person.  (My apologies to the person I told a different amount.)
