Dear Big Sweep Volunteers,

Our assignment for Big Sweep this year is Bethabara Park.  Please meet at the shelter next to the Visitor’s Center at 9 am this Saturday, October 7th.  Shane Harterink is the Leader in charge of this event.  Should there be any issues please contact him at 336-830-3264.  Please wear your Class B uniform shirt.  If you do not have one, any t-shirt will do.  You may want to bring a dry pair of socks and shoes.  This is a waterway cleanup, so please prepare accordingly.  Please print and fill out the attached waiver, and bring it with you for each member that will be participating.  Most importantly, have a safe and FUN time cleaning our wonderful city park!

Pack 934 Weekly Updates 10/3/17

Hello Again Friends,

I hope you all are having a spectacular Tuesday.  Things have been a little crazy at my house so I’m running a little behind getting the update out.
⛪
Tonight is the first of the God and Family Course for those that signed up.  We will meet in the Cub Scout Room in the basement at 6pm.  Please try to arrive a little early so we can get started right at 6.
📣
Thank you to all the Webelos II that made it to the Boy Scout meeting last night.  Webelos II (5th grade) will NOT meet tonight since they were invited to visit the Boy Scouts last night to get information in anticipation of bridging up the end of Feb.  If you neglected to sign up for anything that has a deadline, you may send me a message.
🦁
At 7pm, our Den meetings will start.  Please use the basement entrance.  Don’t forget to bring your Popcorn collection forms and any money that needs to be turned in.  Scouts should come through the Youth Commons to show their form and get their hand stamped for a small prize.  Parents, please come on into the Youth Commons to turn in money at the table for your den.  We will have a sign behind each Den’s Coordinator so that you can spot them easily and get the receipt.I am attaching some “Need to Know” information to the bottom of this email.
🍿
Dens will dismiss at 7:45 to head upstairs to the Family Life Center to get the results, where the top three sellers will pick a prize and everyone who sold some popcorn for the week will get small prizes on the way out.
🏞
This is the last week to sign up for Big Sweep Winston Salem.  Please see me at the sign up table if you would like to be involved.  This is a great community project and lunch is free.
⛺
This is also the last week to sign up for the Parent/Son Camporee.  If you have never been to this awesome event, you should try it.  The boys and parents  always have a wonderful time!  The memories from these outings will last a lifetime!!

Pack 934 Movie Night and Other Important Dates

Dear Pack Family,

It’s so hard to believe it is August already.  I don’t know if everyone is having as much trouble with the time flying by as I am, but it feels like summer break just began.

We will have our annual Movie Night and Ice Cream Sundae time with a twist of Invite a Friend (or two or three) and parents can update/fill out information while the children are occupied with the movie.  That will be Saturday, August 26th at 6:00 pm, in the Fellowship Hall (dining area) at Mt. Tabor UMC.  Please just shoot me an email or text to let me know how many will be attending so we can have enough ice cream.  Also let me know if there are any allergies that would prevent your child from eating ice cream.  (I want to be sure to have enough alternatives for those who need it.)  Please make every attempt to join us.  I would like to get as many of the medical forms completed as possible on that night.  You can also go to this link at our Pack934.org website and complete Part A (1 page) and Part B (2 pages) of the health forms.  We all need to update them to ensure we have the correct information for this school year.
女
We will begin our den meetings on Tuesday, August 29th at 7pm.  We invite all dens, including our new Lions to come that night!  Parents of new Tigers and Lions (1st grade and Kindergarten) as well as the boys, will be learning how Cub Scouts works.  The Lion’s Guide, Mr. Trevor Seltzer and our wonderful Cub Master, Mr. Mack Moore, will be asking the parents of the Lions to make some suggestions regarding timing of the Lions meetings and such…

There are several dates in September that you may want to put on your calendar, in addition to our normal meetings.
Tuesday, Sept. 5th – Pack Open House 7pm (Fun and Games
led by our Webelos while Leaders and
                                                              Parents are talking.)
Saturday, Sept. 16th – Wake Forest Football, Scout Day 3:00                                                                      $15 each.  Deadline Sept. 6th
                             Tuesday, Sept. 19th – Den Meetings 7pm
Saturday, Sept. 23 – Pack Trip to Greensboro Science Center                                                                   9am (Details below) Deadline Sept. 6th
                             Tuesday, Sept. 26th – Pack Meeting 7pm / Popcorn Kick-off

The sign-up sheets for WFU Football and the Pack Trip will be available for at Movie Night.  Both of these events are open to families.  The WF game is open to friends as well.    Because the deadline for both of these events is so soon after we start back, I wanted to be sure I got the dates to you now.

The Pack Trip to Greensboro Science Center has a couple of options.  8 years of age and older may participate in the SkyWild Ropes Course.  (8 and 9 year olds MUST have an adult to participate with them.)  The cost for the ropes course and the Science Center is $35 each.  Anyone from 3-8 or anyone not participating in the course may purchase Science Center tickets for $11.50 each.  Children 2 and under are free.  We will meet beside the ticket window at 9am to enter together.

As most of you know, we sell popcorn as our BIG fundraising event.  (ONLY fundraiser for our pack for the last 2 years at least.)  While door-to-door popcorn sales start at the end of September, on-line popcorn sales usually begin the 1st of August.  (Yes, I’m a little late getting this to you.  Please forgive me.)  This is a great way to get popcorn to those who live out of town and not have to deliver it personally or ship it yourself.  If you created an on-line account last year, please use that account, but do go back and ensure the UNIT TYPE is correct.  It should say “Pack”.  Please click this link to see the special Online prizes and incentives as well as a video of how to set up your online account for those who are new or did not set one up last year.

I have updated the website at Pack934.org with the events through January for the upcoming season.  I will complete the remaining events shortly.  I just wanted to remind you all that the website is a great place to get information.  When it is time to think of work scheduling and your scout’s schedule, the website will have the information as up to date as we can keep it.

I also have a goal this year to utilize our facebook page to update you all as well as the group emails, so if you have a facebook account, please make sure you follow us.  (Only members can see our page and we have control over who our members are.)

If you made it to the end of this email, thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy schedule to learn what’s coming up in our scouting world!  I believe you should be up to date and well informed.  If you should have any questions, my number is below, you may call, text, email, facebook message, ect….
I look forward to seeing everyone soon,
Hope Pirtle

Pack 934 Wet N Wild Trip

Hello Friends,

I hope everyone is having a great summer so far!  Two and a half weeks of no school and I’m already missing emailing and seeing you all.  I just couldn’t stay away.
I wanted to tell you of a wonderful summer event we are having.  We would like to hold sign ups (via email, text, or call) for Wet N’ Wild Emerald Pointe in Greensboro, scheduled for Sunday, July 16th.  The rate will be $29.00 for persons 48 inches and taller and $23.00 for anyone under 48 inches.  We are looking at arriving at 10am.  I know this may interfere with church for some people.  If the early time would stop you from attending, but you would attend if we met at 1pm, please let me know that as well.  The park closes at 6pm.
Because we are going on Sunday, we do get a free cabana.  You can also bring your own cooler on Sundays!  We will need to meet in the parking lot and enter as a group.
I look forward to hearing from you,
Hope Pirtle

Rank Advancement Begins at 6:30 Tuesday, May 23rd

Hi Friends,

Just a friendly reminder that Rank Advancement will begin at 6:30 pm Tuesday, May 23rd.  I would hate for anyone to miss the earlier beginning time.  We will be in the Sanctuary upstairs.  The scouts will need to be in their Class A Uniform (Full Uniform) for this special night.
Tomorrow night be the last night to sign up for Dash Tickets.  It will also be the last night we will meet to turn in the remainder of Resident Camp balance.  Please stop by the sign up table for either of those items.  I will be closing the sign-up table in time to assist with the Ceremony, but will be open after the program as well.
I look forward to seeing you all there,
Hope

Spring Family Camping 2017 Details

Hi Fellow Campers,

We are looking forward to our Spring Family Camping Trip this weekend.  If you missed the previous email, we will be at Camp Raven Knob this year.  The address is 266 Raven Knob Road, Mt. Airy, NC 27030 .  It will take approximately one hour to reach the destination.  Some of this information was covered in the last email, but I am including so you can have all the info in one place.

We will be pitching our tents in the Johnson Training Shelter area at the bottom the valley.  (Please see the attached map.  Johnson Training Shelter is at the very end of the road on the left side looking at the map.)

The plan for meals is:
Friday- bring your own dinner (or eat before you come)
Saturday – Breakfast: Breakfast Burrito Bar (eggs, cheese, sausage, ect,,,)
                     Lunch:      Sandwiches and fruit
Dinner:     “Pig Pickin” (chicken for those who can’t eat pork only)
                                     baked beans, and slaw
Dessert:    Dutch Oven treats (Bring your favorite recipe!)
Sunday –  Breakfast:  Muffins and Fruit

The set up and serving of each meal will be handled by the dens and their parents  as follows:
     Bears – Saturday breakfast
     Wolves – Saturday lunch
     Webelos – Saturday dinner
     Tigers – Sunday breakfast

If you can not eat pork, could you please send me a quick text or email so we’ll know how many chickens we need.  Once again you may bring a cooler for your family.  Please be mindful that boys often want what they see you with.  Also, if you are bringing a cooler, please bring extra ice so we can keep the camp food cold.

We will be loading supplies on the trailer Friday at 2:00 pm.  If you can help, please meet us there.  We are in need of several portable tables.  If you have one you can bring, please do so.

Cup Mugs: In an effort to reduce waste of disposable coffee cups, we would like to ask that you bring your own camp mug and/or refillable water bottle. This is a great time to invest in an insulated metal mug- they are great for camping. Please write your name on your mugs unless you don’t mind drinking someone else’s coffee.

Whittling Chip – Rising Third Graders and up –  Our rising bear scouts are eligible to work on their whittling chip on the Spring Family camping trip. The Whittling Chip includes training for how to safely handle a small pocket knife. The rising bear or current wolf den leaders will handle this session for the boys and their parents. Older scouts that are new to the pack or missed this session earlier, can attend as well. Our pack takes the safe use of knives very seriously, we have posted rules and information for our parents on the website to ensure that we keep everyone safe. Please read this information and be aware of our parent’s responsibilities concerning the boys handling knives. Some families make getting a pocket knife a part of this event for the boys.
Dutch Oven Contest: We will have a Dutch Oven Contest on Saturday. We have dutch ovens that will be available.  If you own a dutch oven, please bring it along with a chimney and charcoal.
Saturday Night Campfire: Saturday night, after dinner, we have a campfire. We usually sing songs, the kids do skits, stories are told, and we will retire a flag. Since we will be roasting marshmallows, if you have a marshmallow stick, please bring it or bring a non-painted wire coat hanger.
Class A uniform: Scouts will need to bring their Class A uniform to wear for dinner Saturday evening and for the campfire/flag retirement ceremony that evening. This is the only time the Class A will be required to be worn over the weekend.  We do like for the scouts and those who have class B uniforms (any scout t-shirt) to wear them when not in Class A.

Suggested items to bring:

§  Chairs
§  Tent
§  Sleeping bags
§  Ear plugs
§  Pillows
§  Flashlights
§  Lantern- helpful if you have extras to bring to put around campsite
§  Toiletries
§  Shower Shoes
§  Towels
§  Sunscreen
§  Bug spray
§   Hat
§  Cup for hot drinks and water
§  Comfortable shoes and clothes

You should also bring rain gear, as it is in the forecast for the weekend!
We don’t have a strict schedule for the weekend.  There will be a hike.  You can bring fishing poles if you would like to fish in the lake.  Breakfast should be around 8 am and Lights Out at 10 pm.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call, text, or email me.
I look forward to seeing you there,
Hope
