Pack 934 Updates 2/4/19

Dear Friends,
I hope everyone had a great weekend!  For those who made it to Scout Sunday , thank you so much!  I would like to thank all of those who attended and especially our Ushers and Readers, Kyle Hart and Myles Marion did a great job on their readings, they are to be commended!  We have a lot of information to cover, so please bear with me as I cover all our upcoming events with descriptions for those who may be newer.

Dens will meet tomorrow evening at 7 PM in the basement of Mt. Tabor.   Our Lion den (K) will be meeting at Mt Tabor this week also.  Our Wolf Den (That would be 1st grade) will be meeting at Fire Station #18, at 1505 N. Peace Haven Rd.

It is Recharter time!  The Scouting calendar runs from April – March every year, so we need everyone to sign up again, or at least let us know if your scout intends to stay in scouting.  We must have this information by the end of February.  You will need to come to the sign up table and pay the yearly charter fee of $45.  If you have questions or concerns, please see Chris Hull or myself, we’ll be happy to help.

Pinewood Derby is fast approaching!  If there is anyone who has not received their car kit, please let me know.  We will have weigh-in Friday, Feb 15th from 6 – 8 PM in the Family Life Center (big Gym).  If your scout will be racing, you don’t sign up, but you MUST bring their car for weigh-in during that time frame.  (You may just drop in with the car whenever is convenient for you within the 2 hour period.)  The cars will be impounded, so that no one touches them overnight, and we will race Sat, Feb. 16th.  I will make every effort to send out the racing times for each den, this week.  For those who have never participated in Pinewood Derby, we race others in the same den, the top 3 racers win for their den.  (They will receive a pin for 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place.)  We end with a race for the Pack winners by racing the top 3 in every den.  (So if your scout is in the top 3, they will return to race in the Finals.)  Every den will also have a Coolest Car winner (voted on by each scout in their den).   The trophies for the Pack winners and the Coolest Car Plaques will be awarded during our Annual Blue and Gold Banquet.  Please use this link for the rules.
📣
Hear Ye, Hear Ye!  Your presence is requested on Friday, March 1st at our annual Blue and Gold Banquet.  This special event is a night to remember.  The whole pack is invited to celebrate Scouting’s Birthday!  The Webelos II will have their Arrow of Light Ceremony at 5:45 PM followed by the Bridging to Boy Scouts Ceremony at 6:30.  (Webelos I will be posting the colors for the events and assisting with serving dinner.) All other dens should arrive at 6:45 PM for dinner at 7.  We will have a Scout themed dessert decorating contest for any who would like to participate.  We will also hand out trophies and plaques for Pinewood Derby Pack winners and the Coolest Car from each den!  Birthday cake will be served.  We’ll have special guests from the council.  It’s a time to celebrate and show our appreciation to those volunteers whom will be moving on and celebrate with the new Boy Scouts!!  RSVPs are at the sign-up table!  If you have any questions, please reach out to me.  If you have photos of the scouts to share, please share them at this link.

If you are a Webelos II Family, you may quit reading now, the remaining events will happen after you have moved up….

Kaleideum North Camp-In will happen Friday, March 15th.  Check-In is 5:45 PM.  The cost of this event is $40 per Scout (Tiger – Webelos) and $15 per adult.  Sorry, Lions, you can look forward to it next year.  This year Kaleideum has moved back to den specific programs as follows:
  • Tiger Cubs will find their “inner actor” during our Tiger Theatre.
  • Wolves will get down and dirty as we go Digging in the Past.
  • Bears will perform several explorations into Robotics.
  • Webelos will explore all things cool as we go Into the Woods.

Kaleideum North Camp-in participants receive an evening snack, all workshop materials, admission to all event activities and programs, breakfast the next morning, and a Kaleideum patch (youth only).  It is always a super fun event and it’s really cool to sleep in the museum!


I know that was a lot of information.  If you made it this far, thank you for taking time out to read this long email and congratulations, you’re almost done!  If you have any questions, comments, concerns, please see me at the sign-up table.  Everyone have a great evening!

Pack 934 Updates 1/29/19

Dear Friends,
⛪
I hope everyone stays inside and keeps warm tonight while the cold winds once again blow.  Since the Pack meeting for tonight was cancelled, our next Pack function will be Scout Sunday, this Sunday February 3rd.  We will attend the Traditional Service in the Sanctuary, which begins at 11 AM.  We will meet in the Welcome Center at 10:30 so that we can get the flags ready and be ready to greet members and hand out Worship Guides.  If your scout would like to participate in the readings, or would like to help with the offering, please let me know as soon as possible.  (We need to let them know who is reading tomorrow.)  We also combine “Scouting for Food” with our Scout Sunday.  That means we will be collecting non-perishable food items church wide this Sunday.  There will be food collection bins in multiple areas around the building in which to drop donations.  If you have not signed up either via SignUpGenius or by Sign-up sheet last week and would like to attend, please send me a text or email telling me how many will be there.  The Scouts will get a patch for attending!  If your Scout completed the God & Me program in November, they will be recognized and receive their pins and Religious Knot badge there.

USS Yorktown 2018 Details

Dear Friends,

I know you are all excited about the upcoming USS Yorktown visit.  I finally have the details for you.
First we will all need to meet in the parking lot at 40 Patriots Point Rd, Mt. Pleasant  SC  29464 at 7:30 pm.  Please allow 5 hours to travel.  We understand this cuts everyone’s day short, but it is necessary.  You will need to eat dinner on the way. This trip is a little different than most of our events.  We MUST enter as a group.  They will not allow us on the ship until everyone is present.  I don’t think anyone wants  to be the cause of everyone standing around waiting for a long time.  We will have orientation and a fire drill Friday night.  If you have any issues getting there, please contact your Leader or Chris Hull (the Leader in Charge) at 336-287-7298.
Also if there are any changes in the person or persons attending, for instance, mom is going instead of dad who signed up, please let me know.  Yorktown must have our breakdown of women, men, boys, girls.
🛄The pier to the ship is 600 ft long.  With this in mind, every person must carry or roll your luggage down the pier.  I also understand space is limited for storage of your luggage, so please pack fairly light.  Please see the list of suggested items attached below.
👕Friday night, everyone should wear their Class B Uniform (Pack t-shirts, if you don’t have a pack shirt, please wear a Cub Scout shirt.  If no Cub Scout shirt, then any t-shirt will do.)  Saturday, the Scouts and Leaders will wear their Class A Uniform.  (formal uniform)  Please wear appropriate clothing of your choosing Sunday.
⏰Saturday morning, we will be taking a boat for the Charleston Harbor Tour.  We will be departing at 8:15am for this tour.  Please ensure that you are present for this experience.
🚀In the afternoon, the children will become Astronauts and explore space like never before with a Virtual Reality Space Mission!  Your Den Leaders will tell you what time to meet for your course.
🍔The Yorktown kitchen staff will provide for Saturday; Breakfast, a sack lunch, and dinner.  They will also provide breakfast Sunday morning.  Breakfast and dinner are served “Navy” fashion in the Chief Petty Officers’ Mess on the ship.  The menu can be found at: http://www.patriotspoint.org/assets/pdf/camper_menu.pdf
A list of ingredients can be found at:
Please do not bring carry-on food or drinks during your stay.  Exception is given to those with food allergies.  (The kitchen staff does have a list of the food allergies and is working to ensure the individuals with allergies are fed appropriately.)  If you need a snack there is a snack bar located landside and one in the hangar bay on the ship.  There are also vending machines located on and off the ship.  🍭
Some things that you will need are:
toiletries
pillow
sleeping bag or bed roll
medicines
ear plugs (metal ship reverberates snores)
Eye Covers (for safety they do not shut all lights out.)
Small extension cord
Extra cash for snack machines
coat or warm jacket for Harbors Tour (It’s very cold on the boat Sat. morning.)
Class A Uniform
Closed Toe Shoes only
Shower flip flops
towel/washcloth
Maybe a small fan (men reported it was hot in berthing area)
Please review the attached rules as safety is a first priority for Yorktown and your leaders.  You are expected to know the rules when you board.
If you have any further questions.  Or think of something I missed, please fell free to reach out to me.  I know this is a lot of information.
Hope
