Cub Scout Den Meetings This Coming Tuesday, 10/6/15 & More

Hello Everyone!
I hope the popcorn sales season is going well. 🔥Please be advised our popcorn sales reporting process has changed this year. Instead of reporting in your popcorn sales each Sunday as we have in years past, just bring in your popcorn forms to each meeting and our popcorn team will tally everything up and enter the boys in the prize drawings based on their sales. 🔥
This coming Tuesday, 10/6/15, will have cub scout den meetings. We will be meeting in the same rooms as this past Tuesday.
These are listed below:
  • Tigers (1st grade) – Room 301
  • Wolves (2nd grade) – Fellowship Hall
  • Bears (3rd grade) – Room 306
  • Webelos I (4th grade) – Boy Scout Room 120
  • Webelos II (5th grade) – Room 305
At the end of the meetings, we will hold the Popcorn Round Up which is when we check the boys’ sales progress and have our prize drawings in the Youth Commons room 113 in the old scout area.
Hopefully, those signed up for the Big Sweep all received my earlier message that it has been postponed until 10/10/15 due to weather. Most of us that were signed up for that event are also signed up to attend the Parent/Son Camporee on 10/10/15 so we will not be able to participate in the Big Sweep this year. If you still want to participate in the Big Sweep and will be available on 10/10, please let me know.

Big Sweep Has Been Postponed from 10/3/15 until 10/10/15

Dear All,
I wanted to let you know that I received a message today that the Big Sweep originally planned for this Saturday, 10/3 is now postponed until the next Saturday, 10/10.
Unfortunately, 10/10 is the Saturday of the Cub Scout Parent/Son Camporee. I know that like me, many of you are signed up for both the Big Sweep and the Parent/Son Camporee. The official pack activity for the weekend of 10/9 – 10/11 will be the Parent/Son Camporee. However, if you are not planning to participate in the Parent/Son Camporee and would like to go to the Big Sweep, please let me know.

Big Sweep Details – 10/3/15

Dear All,
I hope you are all well. Thank you for signing up to support our community by cleaning it up!
Currently, our pack has 38 people coming to the Big Sweep next Saturday, 10/3/15. I received our assignment last night. We have been assigned to Washington Park. We are to meet in a parking lot off of Broad street (please see my note below). We will be joined by local families, the Washington Park neighborhood association and a group of students from the School of the Arts.
I sent back a message asking for clarification on the meeting location and some other details. As soon as I have the answers to my questions, I will send them out to you. One of my questions was about attire for this event. As of right now, we will be in class B (cub scout t-shirts) with other details to follow from the KWSB (Keep Winston Salem Beautiful) team. Additionally, right now the weather looks good for next Saturday, mostly sunny with a high of 65 degrees. However, things can change so we will monitor it and leave messages as appropriate.
The KWSB  team is planning to have donuts in the morning and at the conclusion of the clean up there will be Cici’s pizza and water. The pack will be bringing hand sanitizer, paper towels and first aid kits as well as other supplies.
The KWSB team is providing gloves and trash bags.
I know Saturday mornings are hard for all of us but let’s meet at 8:45 am. We have some safety information to go over with the boys before we begin. Based on the information that came from KWSB, there will be at least 78 people in Washington Park volunteering that morning so the earlier you can get there the better for parking.
Click here for a waiver to be signed and returned to me at the den meetings on Tuesday (9/29). If you are not able to attend the den meetings, let me know and we will make other arrangements for the wavier. I will have some paper waivers at the sign up table on Tuesday as well.
I will post this information on the website and will add the details to the Big Sweep Webpage on our site.
Take care-

Cub Scout Den Meetings Next Tuesday, 9/29/15 & More

Hello All,

Wow! What a Popcorn Kickoff at the Pack Meeting on Tuesday! Please remember that door-to-door Popcorn sales begin tomorrow, Friday, 9/25/15. This is blitz weekend! So have your scout put on his Class A uniform and sell some popcorn!
If you were not able to come to the pack meeting this week, please visit with Amanda at the sign up table beginning at 6:45 pm on Tuesday, 9/29, or you can email me with questions and to set a goal on how much popcorn you think you will sell this season. Setting your goal will earn your scout a camouflage wallet to put all his popcorn prize gift cards in. The boys are crazy about these wallets. Your scout must set his sales goal by October 6th for your scout to receive his wallet.
Just a reminder that each boy needs to bring his popcorn order form with him to each den meeting during popcorn season to be placed into the drawing to win prizes. The more each scout sells the more tickets he gets to put into the drawing.  Please click here for Popcorn Prizes handout and Popcorn Sales plan handout to see the popcorn handouts from last Tuesday’s meeting.
Our pack is fortunate to keep growing and growing. The Old Hickory Council is spreading the word about Cub Scouting. We had lots of surprise scouts come on last Tuesday. Welcome to them!  When you jump in membership up 35-40 families, you have some growing pains.  If you are new and need some help sorting all of this information out, please contact me.
This Tuesday, 9/29/15, we will have our den meetings in our den rooms. I realize we have even more new scouts so I will be putting up signs to help everyone find our meeting rooms. Please enter again through the church office. If you need to use an elevator we have one, please email, call or text me for directions before next Tuesday.
We usually wear our class A uniforms to den meetings but if you are new and have not had a chance to get to the scout store or need some help figuring it all out. We understand, please contact me for assistance.
Sign ups
Our council moved our deadline out by a few days on the Parent/Son Camporee. This is your last chance to sign up. If you are interested, please email, call or text me by Monday, 9/28th.
Current sign ups are Big Sweep, Wake Forest Football Game & Sleepover, God & Family Classes and Webelo I and Webelo II Camping Trip. Tuesday, 9/29/15, is the deadline to volunteer for the Big Sweep.

A Small Change to the Transportation Museum Plan for Saturday

Dear Transportation Museum Travelers,
I hope you are all well tonight. I wanted to let you know of a small change in plans for Saturday’s trip. Everything is the same except we will not be doing the potluck dinner part of the trip. I am hoping that I caught everyone before you bought or cooked anything for Saturday.
So we will ride the train together and then you are free to explore the museum and stay as long as your family wants to enjoy the museum.
Please contact me with questions.

Cub Scout Pack Meeting Next Tuesday, 9/22/15

Dear All,
Thank you for your patience during our very first paperwork party this past Tuesday. No one at my house has confessed to getting our (blank) paperwork wet at this point and I appreciate your waiting while we had to make emergency copies for everyone to fill out. I can assure you that the current paperwork is now encased in plastic. I know this held up some other parts of the party and I thank you for waiting. I am very grateful for all the support and help that was offered. There were many heroes of the night! I will try to name everyone and my apologies if I miss someone.
Thank you to the Webelo II Den, Carmen Bridges, Amanda Treadway, Justin Treadway, Al Hadley, Joanne Mitchener, Sheri Nebinger, Andy Nebinger, Alex Lee, Courtney Shields, Sally Gupton, Stacy Stevens, Rebeccah Byer, Mack Moore, Michael Nebinger & Brad Wood.
There was also a pair of black framed reading glasses left in the Fellowship Hall after the party, please let me know if they are yours.
This Saturday, 9/19, is the trip to the Transportation Museum. The communication for this trip has gone out. If you signed up but did not receive an email about it, please contact me.
I usually post a copy of all of these pack announcement and reminder messages on the main page of the website, www.pack934.org, as well.
We meet again next Tuesday, 9/22/15, at 7:00 pm at Mt Tabor UMC. This will be a pack meeting, where all the dens meet together. It will be held in the Family Life Center which is located on the other side of the Fellowship Hall. (Just for reference, we had our paperwork party in the Fellowship Hall this past Tuesday.) Due to our church’s construction project, the Family Life Center is temporarily set up as the church sanctuary. We may need your help keeping the children off of the sound equipment in the room. Please be watchful.
This will be a Class B, Cub Scout t-shirt, event. If you don’t have a class B t-shirt yet, any t-shirt is fine. For the boys who have earned awards, those will be given out, we will discuss our upcoming popcorn fundraiser and we will be playing a game outside, weather permitting.
Please enter through the church office as you did this past Tuesday and come in through the fellowship hall.
You can turn in any stray paperwork and sign ups will continue as well. Current sign ups are Big Sweep, Parent/Son Camporee, Wake Forest Football Game & Sleepover, God & Family Classes and Webelo I and Webelo II Camping Trip.

Transportation Museum Trip Details – 9/19/15

Hello Cub Scout Friends,
We are all looking forward to seeing each of you at the Transportation Museum this Saturday.  The address is 411 S. Salisbury Ave. Spencer, NC 28159. It is about a 46 minute drive from Mt Tabor UMC.
I checked the weather and it looks really good for Saturday.
This is a class B uniform, cub Scout t-shirt, event. If you don’t have a cub scout t-shirt yet, any t-shirt will work.
We are meeting there at 1:45 pm. We have a pack train ride set up. The train ride is 25 minutes long. Your tickets also cover the turn table ride as well.
After the train ride, you are welcome to go where your scouts and children want to explore on the grounds. We will meet at the picnic shelter (there is only one) around 4:30 pm to have a potluck dinner. I am told there is a big field around the shelter and the kids can play after eating.
As far as the food, please email me back with what food you are planning to bring if you didn’t list it on the sign up sheet so I can make sure we are covered. We could use main dishes, desserts & sides. You can drop off your food at the picnic shelter when you arrive at the Transportation Museum. We have 45 people signed up to attend the trip on Saturday!
I will post a copy of this message on the pack website as well.

Cub Scout Den Meetings & Parent Social on 9/15/15

Dear All,

I hope you are all well. On Tuesday, 9/15/15 we have our den meetings and our parent social & paperwork party from 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm. The den meetings will be in our new meeting rooms at Mt Tabor UMC. You can enter through the old scout entrance or through the church office.  Please remember that these will be the first meetings for many of our new scouts and even though we have pack members who are planning to be in the parking lot to direct them, they may still need help finding their way.
Please remember that while door-to-door popcorn sales have not started, the on-line popcorn sales season is in full swing. Please visit our popcorn page on the pack website for information on setting up an on-line account and the football tickets prize.

The parent social & paperwork party will be in the church fellowship hall. Please bring in your completed paperwork or come to the party and fill out it. We will have access to the church copier if you want us to make copies of your insurance cards for your medical forms. This year, we have a couple of new forms that we need from each scout family. They are our pack volunteer form and our pack image permission form. Each current scout family needs to fill out medical forms, outdoor permission form, volunteer form and an image permission form.
While we will have paper forms at the party, our forms are also available on-line at: Link to Cub Scout Application, link to Medical Forms, link to Outdoor Permission Form, link to Pack Volunteer Form and link to Image Permission Form. Please remember that we need two medical forms – one for the scout and one for the adult going with the scout. Every time we fill out medical forms, we get the question who is the Unit Leader, please write in Brad Wood.
We will also have the pack t-shirts and the 934 uniform patches on sale at the parent social. We will be holding the sign ups at the parent social as well.
If anyone would like to bring light snacks to share at the parent social, feel free to do so. I will bring food and drinks. In fact, I will be baking all weekend so please come and eat! It is my birthday this month so please come by and have a snack with me.  I also have the church snow cone and popcorn machines for the party. *Please note: All food especially the snow cones may only be eaten in the fellowship hall or in the parking lot as we can not have the food in other areas the church.*
If anyone would like to volunteer to help at the parent social, we need help showing the new parents around, with the t-shirt sale, making copies, handing out popcorn and snow cones and collecting forms. Even if you can only spare a few minutes, it would be deeply appreciated.
Tuesday, 9/15/15 is the deadline to sign up for the Transportation Museum visit. It begins at 1:45 pm and includes dinner under the picnic shelter.
Please remember you can pay with check, cash or credit card at the meetings.
