We just found out that all NEW scouts (signed up July 1 or later) will be allowed to attend Cub Adventure Weekend for FREE!  If you are interested in attending or have already paid and would like to take advantage of this offer, please email Alicia with your scout’s name and t-shirt size.  The fee is only waived for scouts – sorry parents!

This year we are collecting $5 per person/$20 maximum per family to cover the cost of food.  We will collect this money closer to camp time.  Our goal is to limit food waste; if you are planning on attending Cub Adventure Weekend, please plan to stay through dinner on Saturday.

The last day to sign up for Cub Adventure Weekend is October 4th. Cub Adventure Weekend is October 15-17.  Please pay here.

Popcorn Fundraiser
A friendly reminder that popcorn sales have started!  You should have received an email from your den’s lieutenant kernel.  If you have not received the email, please reach out to your den leader.  Please visit this link for more information.  Happy selling!

Scouts Start Soon!

Ice Cream, movies, and den meetings!

Greetings Pack 934 Cub Scouts and Families,

It’s August, and that means a return to Cub Scouting in just a few short weeks.  To kick off the new year, we will hold our Ice Cream and Movie Afternoon on Sunday, August 22 at 1pm.  We encourage all our scouts to drop by and enjoy the movie and ice cream.  Bring a friend who may be interested in Cub Scouts and earn your Recruiter Badge if they join the Pack.  While the scouts watch the movie, we will have a paperwork party for parents/guardians to complete forms for the upcoming year.  We are also happy to meet with new families during this time to answer questions.

Den meetings will begin on Tuesday, August 24, at 7pm.  We are excited to meet in person again this year, with individual dens having the option of meeting indoors or outside as in the past.  Pack leadership is monitoring COVID-19 guidance from the CDC and will meet on August 17 to finalize protocols to start the year.  The church currently requires making of adults and youth while in the building. We will update families on what to expect before Movie Night.  Of course, if you have questions in the interim, feel free to contact me or Alicia, or reach out to your den leaders.

Parents can get a jump on your paperwork before 8/24 by filling out the following forms in fillable PDF.  Please email your completed forms to Alicia at pack934communications@gmail.com.

Health Forms
Outdoor Release Form
Youth Application – For new scouts or if you are bringing a friend!

As noted above, please bring a friend for Ice Cream and Movie Night!  Print and sign the below cards and hand them out to your friends.  You will earn your Recruiter Badge when they sign up to join Cub Scouts.

Rank Advancement Ceremony TONIGHT at 7pm (May 18)

Tonight is our final meeting of this scouting year!  The ceremony will start at 7pm in the gym.  Immediately after we will go outside for our Blue and Gold Kona Ice Social.  All cub scouts and siblings in attendance will receive a free ice cup from the Kona truck in celebration of our scout’s achievements over the past year.

The Pack will arrange seating in the gym for the scouts, but we are asking family to bring a personal chair to sit in (leaders will be sanitizing church chairs afterward). Please also wear a mask and your full Class A’s this evening – pants, shirts, neckerchiefs, slides, and belts.

Pack Hike Tomorrow!

Hello Everyone. I hope you are all ready for the pack hike this Saturday, May 15th, at Stone Mountain State Park. We will meet at the Lower Trailhead parking lot at 9 am and start the hike by 9:15 am. We have been advised that the park fills up by 10am on weekends. The park staff will start to turn visitors back once the park is filled to capacity. We do not want our pack split in half so we are taking an early start to the day. It will seem like a long drive to get to correct parking lot, but you will not miss it on your left. There will also be signs for the Hutchinson Homestead, which we will hike past.

Stone Mountain is slightly over an hour’s drive from Winston, so please leave time in your morning to drive there. The address is 3042 Frank Parkway, Roaring Gap, NC 28668. The easiest way to get there is to take US 421 North towards Wilkesboro and then I-77 towards Elkin. Afterwards stay left and take US-21 towards Roaring Gap/Sparta. After entering the park, be sure to drive to the Lower Trailhead parking lot. Follow THIS LINK for specific directions found on the park’s website. The park’s phone number is 336-957-8185.

The trail is well maintained so athletic shoes should do well if you do not have a pair of hiking boots. Have your scout wear Class B (Scout related shirt). Please make sure to pack water and snacks since the hike will take approximately 2 hours. Alicia is providing trail mix, but you’re still encouraged to bring your own. The hike will end before noon so families are encouraged to bring a packed lunch and enjoy the rest of what the park has to offer. Restroom facilities are available at the Lower Trailhead parking lot.

If you do plan on coming please respond to this email with the names of each individual attending. If for any reason you need to get in contact with me on Saturday my phone number is 336-972-3929. I cannot guarantee cell service. Saturday’s forecast is looking partially sunny with a high of 73, however it will be cool in the morning so pack a light jacket. You will heat up quickly once we start so make sure to have a backpack to put your jacket and other materials in while hiking.

I look forward to seeing the scouts there. It should be a great time.

No Den Meetings Tonight – Leaders Meeting at 7pm

Pack Hike
Our pack hike is this Saturday, May 15. We will meet at Stone Mountain at the Lower Trailhead Parking at 9am.  The rangers have told us that the park is reaching capacity by 10am on the weekends and they will close the park to incoming traffic once they are full.  PLEASE be at the park no later than 9am if you are planning on attending.  Remember to bring good hiking shoes and water.  Restroom facilities are available at the trailhead.

Rank Advancement
Our last meeting is next Tuesday, May 18th, at 7pm.  This is our rank advancement ceremony where scouts will earn their neckerchief, book, and slide for their next rank.  Please plan to be at the church for a 7pm start in the gym.  We will have Kona Ice available for the scouts after the meeting.
